The HiPPO effect

The HiPPO effect occurs when a culture deems that a 'Highest Paid Person Opinion' carries more weight. The 'captains call' where instinct is favoured over a data driven approach based on evidence.

We often expect this of our poor HiPPOs and leaders. We believe they are somehow super human and have these mystical powers to predict the future. Instead we should expect our leaders to set vision, guide strategy and build enabling teams and workplaces where decisions are guided by feedback, learning and evidence.

I hope you enjoy my little HiPPO sketch and summary. I used Krita (open source drawing program) and a Wacom tablet that I am still trying to get to grips with.
