Mindset and What’s Visible
Often teams focus on the things they can see or feel they have more control over. A logical place to start for many. For example the tools they use to implement agile (work tracking, reporting and processes). Or focus on building out artifacts such as playbooks, documenting processes and operating models, that can be shared via email, uploaded and published as a deliverable, proof that work is being done and practices are in place.
Whilst tools and artifacts are important, it is often the stuff below the surface that we cannot see that has the biggest impact and can hold us back.
This starts with people's mindset, which drives their beliefs, and the values and principles they hold onto. This then leads to behaviors which can be seen, if we take the time to look and observe, which builds the culture unique to every team and organization.
If we focus too much on the visible, the tools and the artifacts, we can lose sight of the important stuff below the surface, which creates the environment we work in.
To nurture the invisible we should look to create diverse environments. Where people feel safe to voice their opinions. A place where people collaborate and build on each other's ideas. Where you have time to reflect and improve.
Attempt to make the invisible, visible. Talk about your values that you share and what you hold dear as individuals. Give people a voice and somewhere to belong. Then you will get their best
